How to Type a Space When The Spacebar Is Occupied By The Reflector
Typing a space is essential. Depending on the map you use, Keyboardy assigns the space key to different locations. This guide explains every way to type a space so you can quickly find what applies to your setup.
If you are still using the Default Map, you can type a space with F4 or F7.
Note: The Default Map is not recommended for real typing — it's only a demo to show how reflection works. We recommend selecting a specialized map that matches the hand you plan to use (Only Left, Only Right, Full Left, or Full Right).
1. Only Left Hand
In the Only Left Hand maps the Spacebar is the Reflector (it does not produce space).
- To type a space: press the
Nkey. - You can press
Nwith your left thumb or index finger. You don’t need to bend your thumb to pressNseparately — simply press N + the Reflector (Spacebar) together, and a space will be typed.
2. Only Right Hand
In the Only Right Hand maps the Spacebar is the Reflector as well.
- To type a space: simply press the
Bkey. You only need to press B — no need to press the Reflector together with it.
4. Custom Maps
If you or we created a custom map for you, the space key might be assigned to any key (for example N, B, H, J, or Space).
How to check your map:
- Open the Keyboardy app.
- Click Visualize Selected Map.
- Look for the key labeled Space on the visual map — that is the key you press.
5. Dual-Purpose Reflector (Beta)
If you are part of the insider program, the reflector can act two ways:
- Tap the Reflector: types a space
- Hold the Reflector: enables reflection mode
